Description
This savory granola is a delightful combination of wholesome oats, nutrient-packed seeds, and a harmonious blend of spices. It adds a satisfying crunch to salads and soups while elevating other dishes like breakfast bowls and roasted vegetables. Best of all, it’s easy and quick to make, and you can easily customize it with your favorite add-ins for a personalized touch.
Ingredients
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
- 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds (I used half black and half white)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 356°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Set it aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients. Ensure that each oat and seed is thoroughly coated with the aromatic blend of olive oil and spices.
- Spread the granola mixture evenly onto the prepared baking sheet, forming a flat layer. If you’re making a larger batch, feel free to use two trays. The even distribution will allow for consistent toasting and crispiness.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 10 minutes, then carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven and give the granola a gentle stir. This step promotes even browning and prevents any pieces from burning. Return the baking sheet to the oven and continue baking for an additional 5 minutes, or until the granola achieves a beautiful golden color. Keep a close eye on it to prevent any burning or over-browning.
- Once done, take the baking sheet out of the oven and allow the granola to cool completely on the sheet before using or storing.
Notes
To store savory granola and maintain its freshness, allow it to cool completely before transferring it into an airtight container, and store it in a cool, dry place at room temperature.
If your granola didn’t crisp up because it was removed from the oven too early, simply place it back in the oven for a few more minutes of baking.
